I finally got around to quietening the downstairs PC. It used to reside in a stonemasons, and hence is a pretty dusty inside, the fans were rather noisey causing it to be rather obtrusive. Whilst adding some more memory to it earlier I took the opportunity to disconnect the fan on the processor heatsink, virtually silencing the machine. Because the processor has the PSU mounted directly above it, there is still a steady flow of air over the heatsink from the PSU fans. I’ve stopped running the distributed.net on the PC to keep the CPU temp down as much as possible. Hopefully it won’t overheat and die.
With that done, it’s much more peaceful in the front room. Now all I need to do is squeeze it back into the hifi rack.
