New Model Army – The Junction, Cambridge
Last night saw a trip to Cambridge to see New Model Army. The support band was Goldblade, very loud, and very enthusiastic. Good fun to watch although we actually moved back to the bar to avoid the large amounts of bass. Not much to say about New Model Army other than that they were absolutely fantastic. The best live band I’ve seen in a long long time.

Happy birthday to me
It’s that time of year again when I celebrate the passing of another 12 months. Tonight it will mostly be celebrated whilst watching New Model Army in Cambridge.

Engineers vs Housing Admin
Tonight was the last league match before Christmas. Not one of my favourite alleys as it’s far too unpredictable, but somehow we managed to win 5-4 and take the pins.
Housing Admin took 8 points, Engineers took 4.
The Damned – Bristol Academy
Off to Bristol Academy tonight to see The Damned as an early birthday present. The traffic and roadworks conspired against us, not helped by Status Quo playing just around the corner, but we got there eventually.
After a few trips to the bar, the first band on were “The Avengers”. Reasonably competent, but a bit cliched. A reasonable cover version of a Rolling Stones (Paint It Black) track made up for an apparent lack of imagination during the rest of the set. The guitarist had obviously read the “cliched rock guitarist poses” manual and followed it to the letter.
Eventually the headline act appeared on stage, the sound wasn’t as good as when they played the Bierkeller 18 months ago, but an impromptu version of Disco Man helped to make up for it. It all seemed a bit rushed to get everything in before the 11pm curfew, but a rendition of Smash It Up in the encore helped keep everyone happy. Shame it seemed to finish all too soon.
Next week it’s off to Cambridge for New Model Army.

I’ve just noticed that my €100 cash-back from Canon has appeared in my bank account. Actually, techinically it hasn’t, as they’ve sent me £100 instead. That pays for a large part of the lens which arrived today.

New lens
My latest eBay acquisition arrived today. A Sigma 18-125 DC. It’s virtually new, in fact there was a receipt in the box dated just three weeks ago.
The new lens is intended as a replacement for the standard 18-55 EF-S lens which I have found slightly limiting at times, the 18-125 should make a very good "normal" lens to leave on the camera full-time.
Work is still manically busy, hopefully I’ll clear most of the backlog this week leaving a quiet week or so in the run up to Christmas.

Housing Admin vs Picadillys
Our first leg was somewhat higher than usual partly due to yours truely getting a 14 spare. We quickly made a 4-0 lead, but managed to lose the 5th leg. The Picadillys slipped again though leaving us only 29 to beat to win the game, something which we did with comfort.
Housing Admin took the maximum 8 points, Picadillys took 1. Somehow I managed to take top score by a clear 11 pins.

It’s back
I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue is back on Radio 4. This means Monday evenings have improved no end.
Update: Linda Smith singing the words from Psycho Killer by Talking Heads to the tune of Save Your Love by Renee and Renato was absolute genius.

A bad start to the week
An hour or so after I get to work I open my courier bag to look for my multi-tool, and find everything swimming in a lake of diet-coke. Luckily my camera and mp3 player seem untouched, the USB memory stick has died, and everything else is slightly sticky.
I hope the week doesn’t get any worse.
