I spent a pleasent couple of hours this afternoon just pottering around on the Stiffee to see how the new forks and brakes coped. The best thing I can say about the forks is that I didn’t notice they were there. They did everything they were supposed to perfectly. The brakes were fine as well although I cooked the back brake on a long descent from the downs.

I need to fine tune the travel setting on the forks a bit, 110mm took a bit of getting used to, and I might need some slightly less bonkers bars to lower the front end a tad more.
BLAAAACK :)
what bars are they? the azonics?
Aye, the 2.5″ ones.
I removed mine and put some EA50′s on the surly and it’s a million times better, I’ll try the Azonics on something else.
I’m fitting my fat barsteward spring to my Pikes tomorrow then going for a test blast in the woods.
Should be fun.
Stop braking so much – that way they won’t cook *and* you get to go faster :)
There is a lot of me to stop, hence 160mm rotors aren’t ideal :)
That’s the one downside of the old Stiffees, there is sod all clearance for a rear rotor, even 165mm is cutting it fine.
The back’s not so important though, 165 should be fine/
Are they the xt’s? threy look blacker than I thought they were, I might need a new brake for the surly, as the O2 is crapolla.
Maybe I’ll buy a deore, they should be pretty cheap.
I’m actually quite liking the Surly again, apart from the rear puncturing every ride… and I have to use metal levers to get the bloody tyres off the rim (they’re tighter than a choir boy)
Yup, old XT brakes. T’other side is a bit more silvery.
Ahh, that’s what confuddled me.
Confuddled. What an ace word :)
