That’s my dilemma at the moment. I want a geared hardtail. Will I ride it enough? I want it partly so I can improve/do loads of difficult climbs that are basically impossible on a singlespeed but hoepfully some of the singlespeed skill(?) will translate accross. Although no doubt I’ll be more worried about the chain popping off with gears to put that much graunch into it.

That’s pretty much the decision I made last night.

I’ll probably buy the 456, and if it prompts me to ride a geared hardtail more then I can replacing it with something nicer at a later date. Given that I’ve done less than 200 miles on the Stiffee this year, it’s might not be worth spending lots of money on a replacement.

Although you could get the 456 for almost nothing then wait a few extra months and buy the BFE and then keep the 456 as a spare or something.

Yeah, that’s a huge difference. Price is why I ended up with a Pompino rather than something that took proper road brakes.
