Mm, sounds fairly not worth mending. Not sure I'd go for a diesel these days, mind.

No welding, but it needs a new wishbone, a brake pipe replacing, and the rear bushings replacing along with a few other things. The front bushings are on the way out, as are the front disks, and it's not been running smoothly for a while. It also drinks fuel like it's going out of fashion, probably due to the aforementioned poor running.

The vague plan at the moment is to replace it with a newer diesel Mondeo, and hope that lasts me ten years like this one.

Depends what the money's going on. If it's welding, probably time to get rid, I reckon it's a bit of a losing battle when it gets to that point.

Given how much you (don't) drive, do you even need to own a car? Might be cheaper to hire one when you need it, and then you can get one that's ideally suited to the job in hand and nearly always new ;-)

Is it likely to fail every year from now on, if is it then it's uneconomical to repair, also, do you want to spend money on a newer car?

Have a look around autotrader to see what used cars are available, then figure it out.
