eBook ripoff

As I have a handful of M&S vouchers and money from Christmas I was perusing the M&S site to see what they had. One thing that caught my eye was the Sony eBook reader. It’s not cheap at £200+, but what’s worse is that the eBooks are often more expensive than the paper equivalent. For example the latest Jeremy Clarkson book is £10 in hardback, and £14 in electronic format.

I think I’ll stick with killing trees for the moment.

#20 – The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Having just finished a run-through the Harry Potter films, I’ll see if I can polish of this lengthy trilogy over the remainder of Christmas and New Year.

Update: I slept through most of it.

#36 – Apocalypse Now

An early start gives us enough time for the full 200+ minutes of the Redux version. A superb film with a superb soundtrack.

#4 – The Godfather Part II

Fortunately my copy doesn’t suffer the all too common problem of only playing the first half of the film.

Singularity

My Christmas bike project is nearly ready for me to start building. It’s an ex-demo Peregrine frame and fork from Sam at Singular Cycles, and despite trying to do this cheaply there’s a pile of new parts including mudguards, disk brakes, bars, bar tape, headset, and cables sat on the sofa. There will also be a new rear wheel arriving early next week once it’s been built. I am at least re-using a front wheel, drive train, seatpost, saddle, stem (until I sort out the length), and tyres (provided they fit).

All being well it’ll be up and running for the new year.

Oysterband – Komedia, Bath

Despite not knowing a single song they played, it was a very enjoyable night tonight, finishing off with an acoustic version of Put Out the Lights with all the band stood in the crowd in front of the stage.

Christmas Shopping

It’s a lot more pleasant when aided by a large mulled wine with a shot of brandy in it.

#3 – The Godfather

Freshly restored and on Blu-ray, this is by far the best version I’ve seen, and is very good for a film which is older than I am. This probably means I should watch parts 2 and 3 tomorrow and Saturday.
