Sunny, with a hint of mud

Out on the 69er 3×9 again today, a minor tweak of the bar height part way round made things feel a lot better. I really ought to change the forks over to 100mm travel at some point in the future. Lovely and sunny out, but still quite muddy in places thanks to all the rain we’ve had in recent days. The Small Block 8 tyres don’t work quite so well in the slippery stuff.

I have a feeling block 8’s aren’t really designed for the UK
I can’t see them gripping on any type of surface that’s not rock hard and dry

Given that I’m a fair-weather cyclist, and at least half of most rides is on the road, they’re fairly well suited to my usage patterns. However I’ll probably swap to Bonty ACXs if I ride this bike over the winter though.

I read that as :fairy rider: :)

are ACX’s good then? I’m happy with saguaro’s on the back, but and I managed to squeeze 3800 miles out of one recently, which is an insane lifespan!

I thought the fairy rider bit went without saying :)

I like the ACXs as a decent all-round tyre. The 69er SS came with 2.2″s, and I’ve got 2.35″s on the 456.

The ACX’s I used to use on the Fisher 29er were ace.
