Fairport Convention, The Playhouse, Weston-Super-Mare

Our fifth consecutive year seeing Fairport Convention on their Wintour, this could become something of a habit.

Support tonight came from Edwina Hayes who was pretty good. As normal she was joined on stage for her last song by Fairport who had a slightly different lineup to usual. Bassist Dave Pegg had suffered an extreme rock-and-roll injury earlier in the year, cutting a tendon in one finger whilst emptying the dishwasher, so has been temporarily replaced on bass by his son, Matt Pegg. Dave still popped up on stage periodically to introduce the band, sing a few songs, and on one occasion, play the kazoo.

Setlist (probably)

Speed of the Sound of Loneliness (backing Edwina Hayes)

  1. Father says:

An excellent evening. Edwina Hayes was probably the best support we’ve seen with them. Beautiful voice, and ‘Who knows where the time goes’ was very emotional. and if Sandy was looking down I’m sure she would have approved. The boy’s set was varied, old and new, and they never fail to enjoy it all. Matt Pegg did his Dad proud. Here’s to next year.
