Elvis Costello – Colston Hall, Bristol

This was my fourth trip to the Colston Hall to see Elvis Costello, and the first solo performance.

Support came from Larkin Poe who weren’t bad, but not necessarily someone I’d seek out again.

Elvis appeared on stage just after 8:30 and played for over two hours. The songs were intermingled with stories about his life and family. Most of the songs were performed on guitar, a few on piano, and some with support from Rebecca and Megan from Larkin Poe. To be honest the latter weren’t as good, and were a bit of a disappointment, I’d have preferred a purely solo set. Despite that it was a superb evening.

Elvis Costello & The Imposters – Colston Hall, Bristol

Tonight Elvis was on tour accompanied by the giant wheel of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook. Unsuspecting volunteers were dragged up onto stage to spin the wheel and pick a song, and if they were really unlucky they were persuaded into the cage to dance. This gave us nearly three hours of music, interspersed with a bit of banter. The last 20 minutes or so was an up-tempo run through of some old classics to finish the night off.

At some point in the next couple of days the tracklisting will appear.
