Paintball’s Coming Home
We had a fantastic day out yesterday paintballing at Hamburger Hill. Unlike our last attempt at a visit, we all arrived in one piece this time.
We did a full-day session, playing around 13 games in total and getting though about 850 rounds of ammo each. Our team wasn’t entirely successful, losing most of the games mainly due to a lack of bravado. I blamed it on us having too many middle-management types. We were thinkers, not cannon fodder.
I’m now aching all over, and covered in paintball-sized bruises after a slightly ill-advised suicide walk during the last game. I can’t wait to do it again.

Nothing lasts
I’ve just replaced the rear tyres on the X-Trail at a cost of just over £200. The tyres on there were date-stamped 2003, so were almost certainly the originals, which means they’d done 75,000 miles. They weren’t even worn out, but the rubber had started to perish necessitating the premature replacement. Hopefully these new ones will last just as long, and therefore I won’t have to change them again.
Gibberish emails
I think Quidco need someone to translate their emails into English before sending them out.
It’s time to start the year the last 10 months but not afresh, and pay the lowest bought since Nov 09 possible price…

Ice Ice Baby
Thanks to the passage of cars during the day my road is now solid ice end to end. Riding up it on the 69er was an interesting experience with the Small Block 8 clad rear wheel spinning at every opportunity.
Once home I finally managed to break into the car, and unable to find my tube of silicon grease gave the seal on the bottom of the drivers door a healthy coating of GT-85 in an attempt to stop it freezing solid again overnight. I still can’t open the passenger door though. According to the climate control gubbins in the car, it was -2.5oC at 16:30, although I suspect that the thick layer of snow over the car may be insulating it from the worst of the cold.
Snow!
At long last we got some real snow here, there was about an inch or so at home, and a bit more than that at the office. I rode in as normal, the crisp snow on the quiet roads and across the site was ace, the main roads were just wet and slushy, but fairly traffic free. About half of the people in the office didn’t make it in, so we bolstered the numbers by building a snowman in the car park.
We finished slightly early so people could get home in the daylight. Tomorrow could be a bit more interesting as they are forecasting temperatures down to -10oC tonight which will turn everything outside to sheet ice making travel even more difficult than today.
A fire has been lit, and I might even break out the wine tonight, purely for medicinal reasons of course.

Beaujolais Nouveau
Celebrating Beaujolais Nouveau day has been something of a Wood tradition for many years. Steak and chips washed down with the first wine of the year, generally followed by profiteroles. It’s been that way as long as I can remember and today was no exception.
The wine wasn’t too bad this year, obviously very young, but with the promise of some body behind it. Both bottles disappeared in a fairy quick manner.
