At last the sun shone which made for a much nicer evening of racing in Victoria Park. Local former rugby player Victor Ubogu even made an appearance in the Cat 3/4 race.

The return of summer

Summer, or at least some sunshine, has made a brief re-appearance for the weekend, something which can’t be ignored after so much rain.

Despite having to work on-and-off all weekend, I decided to head out on the Pegasus to check out the new bridge built as part of the nearby Two Tunnels route, and then headed up the hill to see where I ended up. After a bit of pottering about I rode home along the canal which whilst dry and dusty in places was interspersed with wet and muddy puddles, making it a somewhat messy ride into town.

Once home, I caught up on emails and calls and then headed out on a clean bike up to Cadence to pick up a new road helmet to replace my aged Bell Sweep. I ended up with a white/green Kask Mojito not the white/pink which, while being listed on the site, doesn’t appear to actually exist.

An afternoon of beer and the Giro finished off the day nicely.

Tomorrow I shall ride the road bike, or maybe just stay in bed.

Despite the weather warnings from the Met Office, the heavy rain held off for the evening. The number of spectators and riders was a bit down on last week, but we had a good night of racing.

Tonight was the first of five rounds of racing in Victoria Park. Unfortunately it was a bit too gloomy tonight, and the camera was struggling to focus by the end of the evening.

Avengers Assemble – The longer version

The Marvel film franchise has been a bit up and down. Mostly up, but a couple of the films didn’t impress me as much as they could of done. I loved Iron Man and Captain America, but thought Iron Man 2 finished a bit too quickly, almost as if they’d run out of film (or disk space), Thor never really grabbed me, and The Incredible Hulk, while being a vast improvement on Hulk, didn’t quite hit the spot.

Now it’s the turn of all of the cast, plus a few we haven’t seen before, to take centre stage with Avengers Assemble, or The Avengers as it’s known to the rest of the world. This sees Iron Man, Black Widow, Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye, and Thor teamed up to, as you’d expect, save the world from a nasty person, in this case Loki.

The film follows the traditional “they’re winning, they’re losing, they’re winning again, oh no they’re losing, oh look they’ve won” path, but follows it well. Bruce Banner is played by yet another actor which is a little disconcerting, but in the end it all works out. Plenty of action, plenty of laughs, plenty to like. When is the Blu-ray out?
